My musings at 1:30 AM

Chillin’ at 1:40 AM , March 31, 2019 .

Yesterday, March 30, was my Dad’s  birthday.

I haven’t “watched ” the news  for about 3 months now.. I am tired of all the political burlesque   that’s going on here in the US and around the world. Like,  what the heck  happened to Venezuela? It’s like an  apocalypse over  there … empty shelves at grocery stores,  Mickey Mouse money… almost a million Venezuela Bolivars for one cup of coffee ! ….  and a  million per cent  inflation rate. ( I watched it YouTube, BBC Channel )

On the homefront,  I’ve turned into a political zombie. …. I’m  more like a  ” deadma “ , I think.  What’s a ” deadma ” ?  It’s a common Filipino slang word coined from 2 English words  ” dead malice ” . A person is  deadma  when he/she  feels, looks, and acts unconcerned about what’s going on around him/her,. ( or fiddles while Rome burns, as the saying goes. ) . However, I’m only deadma  on the outside.  Inwardly, I’m judging….. Yes , judging ,  but  in the most sensible, reasonable ,  logical  and most fair manner  as possible.

That’s the  reason why my politics has   slid from far left  to just a bit left of center.  Extremism is toxic. Anything  taken  in excess is poison.  The only thing  that has not budged  is my position on environment and guns, and my  unwavering disgust with  you – know -who…

I know exactly when the slide towards the center started. It started right after the 2016 US presidential elections.

That’s all. Don’t hate me.  Bye , and peace.

    • When there’s really nothing we can do, except do the right thing always, and follow the golden rule, and be a good citizen, I think we can do away with the news for a while for that temporary peace of mind.

  2. Deadma. I learnt a new word. I think that describes my state in the last few weeks. Months? And like you, I am only deadma on the outside too. It’s such an inbetween state to be in.

  3. To me the news is a break from ‘netflix’ & ‘hulu’ but with the same sense of reasoning ‘𝕀𝕥’𝕤 𝕠𝕟𝕝𝕪 𝕒 𝕞𝕠𝕧𝕚𝕖’ ‘𝕀𝕥’𝕤 𝕠𝕟𝕝𝕪 𝕒 𝕞𝕠𝕧𝕚𝕖’ 😉

      • I mostly only listen while working on the computers or if I want to take a nap with some background noise…I got burnt-out after 60+ yrs of hard core rock&roll so very seldom turn on the radio or flip a disc any more. I do listen to Steve Cushing’s ‘ 5hr 20’s-60’s radio show ‘Blues before Sunrise’ now & then at midnight Saturdays on NPR 🎶

  5. left of center is a good place. I keep my GI attitude towards politics and politicians the same and that is I don;’t trust any of them and they will all tell you whatever you wanna hear so they get your vote.

  6. You said and described it all. Many of us decidedly stay away from the news. It is nightmarish!

  7. Political extremism, same as religious intolerance or national suprematism or racism is always a sign of a hidden personality problem. It develops when people are deeply dissatisfied with themself, and they start to blame others for their own missery. And when they identified the “evil aliens” or the “enemy next door” as the most likely reason for the self-hate, it takes only a few steps to sign bills to legally imprisson all those who are different.

  8. The news isn’t news anymore, it’s interviewing the most hysterical person they can find about anything. It’s a lot funnier than those talk show hosts you guys have. I used to think it was canned laughter reacting to those jokes the hosts told, but it turns out that it’s a real audience…

      • Sadly there is still some way to go yet before there can be an upturn, if we are lucky to have one, and that depending on your point of view of upturn, of course!

  9. I stopped watching the news since RRD became president of the Philippines. It only adds to my daily stress.

    • Whoa ! 2 thumbs up ! ! ( Not for the stress, ha ha, but for your disapproval of that one…. I guess the daughter will run for President, too ?

      • Oh God please no. Not another one. The country is suffering as it is. I think Filipinos have had enough. Loyal supporters have been changing sides already. Some are just scared to switch sides. I really hope his reign will end soon.

        • The things he says are outrageous and such an embarrassment for the country. He’s the leader of and represents over a hundred million Filipinos… the least he can do is to speak decently, like a decent human being. His build, build , build policy will bring down the country . I am sure he just wants to surpass the progress of the past administrations… instead of building a show place like Clark City, he should spend money to improve the lives of the urban poor. The country will appreciate it more. BCBG and places like these were built by the private sector … he doesn’t need to surpass it by building something as a monument for himself. It feels like he actually wants to take down Metro-Manila becauase all the improvements in Metro-Manila were not made by him.

          • He wants to be like Marcos. He idolizes Him. Out economy is suffering. The people are suffering. All because of that build build build BS.

          • I think he has no choice. Unfortunately, material construction is seen as the only way for a leader to contribute to ‘development’. As is the projection of a ‘he-man’ kind of image. Far right has taken hold of the world.

  10. While I am a liberal I am also a pragmatist. The art of compromise must not be abandoned for partisan gain. But too much of our politics takes place at the extremes.
