About the potluck party that I talked about on my previous post……. the ” white ” co-worker who was assigned Mac n’ Cheese brought the most delicious Mac n’ Cheese I’ve eaten so far. The pasta was homemade , believe it or not. Pasta from scratch made all the difference. Home- made or store bought, anything with cheese is a winner to me, anyways. Well, I still buy cheese sticks for snacks, and eat a huge chunk of cheese , as is. It’s like spooning off peanut butter from the bottle and licking the peanut butter off the spoon. Well, that’s my disgusting habit.

Jeepers Creepers 3 is coming out soon. I don’t know if I’m going to watch it. Jeepers Creepers 1 is one of the top 10 scariest movies in my list. So much so that the only nightmare I can still vividly remember is about the monster in this movie.

In my dream, this monster is chasing me. The funny thing about my dream is that the creep is wearing a Hawaiian shirt, ( white short-sleeved polo with light blue flowers ). Then I see a cop whom I recognize as Keanu Reeves , and I scream for help. He arrests the creep and says , it’s okay, you’re safe , and can go home now. Then, at home, I open my bedroom door, closes it, and when I turn around, the creep is right behind me. Then I woke up with my heart pounding so hard I gagged and almost threw up. I swear I thought I was about to have a massive coronary. And that, folks , is the reason why I cannot forget this nightmare.

This is my short Holloween story.

Oh, I binge-watched Slasher on Netflix. My verdict: Meh. Darn it, I watched 26 episodes of pure stupidity. All the characters are so unlikeable, especially the female main character. People connected to her are all getting slashed ( 8 people )…….. still, she acts so casually, like, she takes a stroll in the middle of the night to get fresh air ? ? The heck . She should be hiding in Timbuctoo.

Food Stereotyping, just for fun

So, last week a co-worker gave us a list of what dish to bring for our potluck party to be held next week. Dennis, my lab co-worker noticed something about the list. “ Psstst, hey, Ren , check out the list. Do you think we’ve been stereotyped ? ” See, there are 5 techs at the lab…. 3 Filipinos, 1 white, 1 Vietnamese, and the dishes we’re supposed to bring are :

Ren – lumpia ( meat eggroll )

Francine ( Filipina girl )–pancit noodles

Dennis ( Filipino-Italian ) — chicken adobo

Trang ( Vietnamese )– Vietnamese spring roll

Robert ( white guy )– mac ‘n cheese

There are 7 others on the list . Amanda’s , a Mexican, is carne asada, and Mrs. Curtis’ , an African -American is , tah dah ! fried chicken.

Whoever made the list, two thumbs up.

This reminds me of a Filipino comedian who once guested on Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show. His says his dad, who’s white, was in the military when he met his mother. But then , his dad ‘s side of the family was kind of racist, and he and his mother were never acknowledged. So, he asked his Dad why he married his Mom. The dad said, “ Because I like Chinese food. “… But ,Dad, Mom is a Filipina. ” and he replied , well, rice is rice.

Most of you know that I worked part-time ( since high school and for 5 years ) at Baskin and Robbins. ( In case you don’t know, it’s an ice cream shop ) So, about stereo-typing …….. after 5 years working in food retail, I can say people of certain ” race “, for some reason, do have specific preferences.

For example, when I see a Mexican walk in, I make a bet with myself she’s going to order vanilla-strawberry with a waffle cone upgrade, and I stand in front of the trays , all ready to scoop the aforementioned flavors before she even orders. He he he

Here are other examples:

Old African -American ladies—- black walnut/praline and cream or old – fashioned butter pecan

Middle- aged white men — Rocky Road

Asians— nutty coconut with pistachio ( Mexicans like this, as well ) or coffee ice cream. Young Asians always buy Cappuccino Blast.

Russians– Banana Royal /Jamocha Fudge

White ladies— mint chip

Teenagers—- Oreo, Cookies and Cream or with CSnickers, Reeses Peanut Butter Cup.

Guys, the probability this different group of people will order these flavors is 90% to 100 %. I kid you not.

My mother , though, likes Rocky Road and Mocha.

I’m Being random lately

So, I’ve been saying I don’t give a D about what’s going on here in the US. Politics is so stressful and such a pain in the arse. But , last week, I donated blood for the Las Vegas victims. ( got a nice , free T-shirt, too ). The line was long, about 3 hours long, then it took about 45 minutes to prep me, and then about 10 to 15 minutes to fill up a pint of my blood…. drip, drip, drip.

Twenty two wildfires are ravaging Northern California, where I live. Twenty two fires , all at the same time ? I smell a rat. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I feel this is arson. The fires are all over…. Butte County, Fresno, Sonoma, and darn it, Napa Valley, which is just 30 minutes from my city.. Napa is a beautiful place and they say it looks like the south of France, with all these rolling hills and vineyards , as far as the eyes can see. Napa Valley is the biggest supplier of wines in the US. I was just there last week for a friend’s bachelorette party. I bought 3 bottles of excellent red wine. So, please, not Napa Valley !

I suspect there are bad men who want to take down liberal California, the 7th largest economy in the world. Our Governor has declared our state a Sanctuary State, and this doesn’t sit well with the Right. I hope I’m wrong.

I’ve been watching tons of movies on Netflix and Hulu. I guess I’m over-compensating for not watching any movies and TV shows for years.

I don’t watch Walking Dead , believe it or not, though I did manage to watch the first season. I don’t like it if there’s too much drama. I stopped after the Governor arc …. it upset me that instead of helping survivors, the Governor killed them. Why ? It was so stupid . Then, there’s an evil cult ? Eff it . I quit. World War Z is more my type, where everyone is on survival mode, and people help each other to survive.

I just watched a Belgian crime story, ” Hotel Beau Sejour. ” It’s subtitled, and I highly recommend it.

For the first time, WordPress has reminded me that I’ve been blogging for 7 years. WP has never done this before.

I feel old…… and very, very nostalgic. All my friends from the old forum ( then we all moved to WP ) are gone now. Phio-chan, Alexis, Kioko ? Where are you guys ? Phio-chan is from Indonesia, a medical student, Alexis is from Oregon, and teaches English in China, and believe it or not, she’s my co-author here on my blogsite,, and Kioko’s from Michigan. I wonder if she’s still with her boyfriend. I miss all the fun we had, fangirling over mangas and animes. I think it was my fault that they stopped communicating with me. Guys, I still read mangas and watch animes. Come backkkkkkk !

Anyway, thank you for the happy memories , my friends.

And about the Las Vegas massacre……. I have no more tears to shed. The last time I cried, it was for the massacre of 20 students at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, and Trayvon Martin. I have already become inured to what’s happening here in the US…. mass shootings, massacres, police violence , racism, political shenanigans…. what else ? It’s a burlesque world we are living in now.
