Christmas 2015, better late than never

Hi !  RenxKyoko Iglesias is here again ..

Before anything else, please check out  my anime /manga  blog  HERE.  I already have 3 posts over there, but there’s no FOLLOW feature on that blog, so if you’re interested , just click the link  HERE….

I piled on about  7 lbs. of  body fat  during the holiday season.  The perpetrators  were these nasties below…. mango cake and Brazo de Mercedes being the masterminds.

.

.Caldereta ( stewed beef  with liver spread ), paella, barbecued spare ribs, fried pork eggrolls ( lumpia ) ,  fresh vegetable  lumpia, turrones ( fried  wrapped  saba bananas ), ham, ube  ( purple yam ) jam, fruit salad, mango cake, cassava cake, Brazo de Mercedes (  it’s the rolled cake in the pic )…. oh, I see a tin of Danish cookies!  I’m sure there’s chocolate pastry  somewhere there. I’m sure of this because I baked it.  Oh, my sister is in the pic, too ! Do you see her ? ” What’s with the pose, Sis ?”

Brazo de Mercedes  (  arm of Mercedes ) and mango cake are very popular cakes in the Philippines. We bought these two from Red Ribbon Bakery, a franchise of this popular bakery from the Philippines.  Brazo de M  is rolled cake with egg custard filling. Super yummy and mango cake is Red Ribbon’s  specialty.  And yours truly cooked the paella, my own specialty.

We heard the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve ( 10 PM , Dec.24 ).  * ponders *  I wonder why Catholics say ” hear Mass ” instead of “attend Mass.”

The Christmas gifts I received  in 2015 were a bit modest compared to 2014.  Well, it’s not about the presents, anyway.  I also know that 2015 wasn’t a great year for  my family, as far as finances were concerned.  We do  have our ups and downs, and last year happens to be a downer. I hope and pray 2016 will be a good year for everyone….. peaceful, productive and prosperous.  * sigh *  I bought 15 Power Ball lotto tickets, then I prayed to all the saints in heaven and promised that if I won, I’d donate one half to charity.  lol   Oh, well, better luck next time, eh ?

This is all for now. Be good. Be nice. Be happy. Peace.

Look at the FOOD! I knew I should have come out for the holidays! I’m ready for Hillary, too.

    • I’m getting nervous again about Hillary, although a lot less nervous compared to 2008. Obama had a solid black vote…. but I believe Hillary has the black vote now.

Do you know the food this year was so much less than last year’s ? We’ve somehow learned our lesson. Instead of eating left-overs for days, it was just 2 days in 2015.

It’s still early in the cycle, but given her opponents . . .

Still looks like a lot of food. I ate simple and went to the movies on Christmas.

        • By the way, I forgot to tell you, we watched Star Wars on Christmas Day. What did you watch ?

I watched Doctor Who. I haven’t seen Star Wars and don’t know if I will or not.

            • The first three are still the best. For some reason, I don’t like this as much, though Ilike the main girl. She’s strong ! !

Everyone loves Rey. I’m seeing a lot of the same sentiment, that this movie, while good, doesn’t seem as strong as it should, but Rey and Finn stand out.

            • Oh, and Finn, too. have you watched Finn in this alien movie , set in London, and the aliens unluckily landed in the hood ?

“Attack the Block” was on a couple of weeks ago here in The Burg. It was a good thing I had my subtitles on. 😉

  7. Oh my, that all looks so amazing. Now I’m hungry, hahaha! I love your blog and I’m excited to read more from you! 🙂

  8. Faced with amazing and delicious feast I think I would have piled on more than a few pounds myself. Happy New Year to one of my favourite bloggers if I haven’t already said that 🙂

    • Thank you, Peter ! Not that I’m blowing my own horn, but the dishes are indeed delicious. I especially like the paella that I myself cooked, I think I have finally perfected it. Have a glorious 2016 !

  9. Lovely spread as always Ren, typical Pilipino dishes. I admire you prowess in the kitchen. Asan ang lechon?

    Reply

    • Sa New Year kami ng Lechon Kawali. We did cook marinated and grilled (indoor grilling as it’s winter here ) pork spareribs. Well, it does look like I’ve been designated the kitchen manager in the family. I had less free time last year, so Mom had to do the rest of the cooking. My sister just bought the cakes, lazy bum. Haha

Oh that food! It looks so yummy, I’m drooling!
That reminds me, when I saw the Hilary pic I wanted to ask if you saw the SNL spoof Hilary Clinton’s Christmas Carol
With Kate McKinnon as present day Hilary. Amy poehler as past Hilary. And Tina fey as Sarah Palin
Omg! I never laughed so hard!
I will post it in my blog tomorrow so you can see it

  13. Now that looks like a terrific spread. And of all things, I am craving purple yam. Yes, I am weird like that.

    • Purple yam, or ube is an iconic Filipino dessert. We use it for cakes, ice cream, jam. I love the taste, but I understand it’s an acquired taste .

    • 7 lbs is one size bigger for pants. Ugh. I do need to lose the extras. I notice it ‘s getting harder to lose a pound as we grow older. It’s been a month , but I’ve only lost one pound.

    • We cook these dishes ( except the cakes ) all year round, but not at the same time. Like, paella is so easy… so we have that at least once a month.
