Hi, RenxKyoko  Iglesias here, Thinking Out Loud.

It’s been awhile, huh.  I’ve got so many things on my mind, actually, but most of them are not worth writing about.  But, this is my blog, right ?  I can write just about anything  . So, let’s see where my thoughts will take me.

Okay…….  if you bought a plane ticket, be sure to get on that plane at scheduled time. I’m talking about  US domestic plane , particularly budget fares,  and specifically  Jet Blue’s . Do you remember my best friend’s cancelled wedding ?  Well, I wanted to cancel my flight too, but I couldn’t get a refund . Oh, yes,  I can, they say, but there’s penalty  on  the cancelled flight.  How much, I asked . $ 267 out of  $ 287.  In other words,  I get a $ 20 refund.  So I decided I might as well use my scheduled 4 – day vacation,  and fly to Long Beach, California. Good thing my brother lives there. But  then,  his girlfriend was out of town, bro was at work, and I was left alone at his apartment. No problem, though.  His apartment was just a 10 minute walk to the beach, and there were plenty of cool places to visit in the neighborhood.  I took lots of photos, but I can’t post them here  at the moment.  I think I need to buy this Premium plan   being offered by WordPress.  I even got a Notification  from them that it was time to buy the Plan.

About my friend’s ex- fiancé….  he’s not a Captain, he’s just a regular police officer. And do you know how my friend discovered he had a wife and kid ? From his health insurance plan, that’s how.  My friend and I met up a week ago and she seemed okay. This reminds me  of what one character said in one Philippine movie that I watched a few weeks ago. He’s comforting the main female character who just got cheated on by her BF  of 7 years.  He says ” you can fall in love again, but you can never fall in love the same way twice. ”  Sheesh.  I just love that movie. Oh, by the way, I’ve been watching Philippine movies to learn the language  and culture.  The problem now is I’ve started fangirling.  This movie is titled ” The Thing Called  Tadhana ( Fate ). It’s a romantic comedy, and it’s hilarious.  I watched it on YouTube, , and yesterday, I wanted to watch it again, but I think YouTube yanked it out. If you  have Netflix, there’s another  Philippine  movie that I got to watch.  The title is THE ROAD.  I think that’s the one and only Philippine movie on Netflix. That’s unfortunate.  There are millions of Filipinos here in the US  who maybe interested, and at the same time help  the Philippine movie industry. Did I say I was fangirling ? Yes, I am. . I love the romantic tandem of Nadine Lustre and James Reid. Bahahaha.  * Seriously, Ren, get a life. *

By the way,  when I clicked Save Draft, I got this message….. ”  An error occurred while saving the post……. user cannot edit the post. ”   What the heck is going on, WordPress ?  Now that I’m finally on a roll, you do this to me.

Oh, by the way,  I just entered the 3rd or 4th phase of my life. This  is life – changing………. but then, every little thing that happens to us  is life-changing, isn’t it ?  I just  hope   any screw -up  that happens to me from now on is  due to my   choices, mine and mine alone, and  not due  to government decisions and some politicians’  stupidities.  Why do I say that ?  Well,  the university had to drastically cut the  number of classes and this  messed up my schedule.  So, why blame the government ?  The state funds the university……. no funding, no classes. Can  you imagine  having just one open  Chemistry class for  all Chem majors, Microbiology, BioChem students. ?  And that one class is a prerequisite  for all my major courses !  My situation was so bad  there was a time  I only had 3 classes, one of which was Ballroom Dancing.  What a pain.

Well, okay. Less classes , more time, more work, more  money, and at least, I learned how to dance the Foxtrot.

Oh, dang it !   Hillary  Clinton ! !  C’mon, move it, move it, move it ! ! !

Hillary

I notice every time  I  go  political,  I lose a dozen or so followers.  I swear, every time .  But, I can’t  always keep keep my political preference  hidden, right ?  OOh, and thank goodness for  comment  moderation.  A few weeks ago,  some asshole posted a comment on an old post where I  said I was neutral on GMO’s.  Rice  that had been genetically modified  in the ’60”s had prevented widespread hunger in SouthEast Asia. High yielding  rice was developed  at IRRI ( International Rice Research Institute ) in the Philippines in early 60s. I did  write , ” it’s been 50 years, but , as far as I know, , Asians did not grow 2 heads.  This commenter said, ” No , they did not, but unfortunately for you, you don’t even have one. For a microbiologist , you’re stupid, what kind of US education did you get  that you do not know GMOs are an abomination?”     X_X   How  do I respond to that ?  I’m sure this commenter  also  thinks vaccines cause autism.   +++  The problem with people like  this commenter is it’s difficult to have a decent conversation with them without  resorting to name- calling.  If this commenter is reading this, I would like him/her to know  I wish him/her success.  Meanwhile, I’ll still buy that 5 – lb bag of GMO potatoes for $2.57, instead of those 4 pieces of organic potatoes for $ 2. 79. I’m not a climate denier. I wish this commenter could also work on getting solar power companies to lower the cost of their products. We just had a solar water heater installed  for $ 6,000.00

This is it for now. I better end this before I say something I would regret later.

  1. Wow. It’s been a long time since your last post. Glad you’re back. I have to laugh about your fangirling. That Thing Called Tadhana must be really good. I have to watch that one of these days. And you like the Nadine and James tandem! Reminds me of my high school friends. Haha. Anyway, that commenter you talked about is kinda rude. It’s okay to disagree about political stuff and all that but resorting to name calling is just not permissible if one wants a sensible debate.

PS I don’t like Hilary Clinton that much but you won’t lose me as a follower. I always enjoy your posts. 🙂

    • Oh, thank you for sticking it out with me.

Are you in the Philippines or the US ? You can’t find That Thing… anywhere. But if you’re in Canada another blogger got to watch this on something like Netflix over there. And though she’s non- Filipino, she liked it too. Really liked it. ( It’s Eglish subbed, by the way.

I know , right ? I was shocked when I read this commenter’s post. I t was nasty. I wanted to preserve it for posterity, but it really upset me, and I don’t want to get upset unnecessarily. Dang. LOL * shakes head *

Philippines. Haven’t been anywhere else. But I have stayed away from movies and television for two years now so I’m kinda late in the hype. Haha. I always see it mentioned in social media though.

It is really nasty. But it is not worth your anger. Some people have difficulty staying civilized when their ‘beliefs’ are challenged. Just laugh it off. 🙂

            • Have you found one yet ? Airnb so much cheaper than hotels, even pension houses. Food is cheap, but transportation is cheap too if you know how to get around on your own. I suggest you get a place in Makati City. It’s close to a few nice places.

            • mmm…! I’m visiting Glaiza so i think i’m covered on the going around lol! I just gotta really be smart about $ with my daughter’s expenses around the corner the moment i come back in town :O

            • Wait a sec….. Glaiza ? As in Glaiza ? No way ! Do tell ! ! ! ! ! !

            • You didn’t know? 🙂 Glaiza from glimmer of happiness, We’ve celebrated our monthversary last week and I’m going to visit her and her family, at least before we start planning to see other parts of the world. Yep! We’ve fallen in love at first sight and been going on strong 😄

            • Really ? * squeals * whoah ! so do I hear wedding bells or what .

            • You are simply too adorable Renx 🙂 yep yep! That’s exactly what’s happening, We’re going to meet and spend time together, plus meet with her family. Maybe even visit her hometown of Iloilo. Followed by El Nido.

After that? ta da! wedding bells and tons of photos to write about, Guess I better brush up on some tagalog huh 😉

  4. Oy to the nasty follower. People have been genetically modifying plants and animals since we walked upright. If they can help provide food for, say, less water, isn’t that possibly a good thing.

Your poor friend. Horribly sad story.

Nice to see your name in this space!

    • I saw on TV one protester who was interviewed by a reporter. She didn’t even know what GMO stands for. O is for organization ? And then there’s this 2 bit actress who heads the anti-vaccine movement. All she had was one narrative evidence. There’ was this parent who had her baby vaccinated , after which , the baby became autistic. Boom. Ergo, vaccines cause autism. And she was all over the media. Mansanto’s business practice is undesirable, I have to admit. In case of the rice GMO…. IRRI is a research facility, and seeds were distributed free to countries that were suffering from famine and drought.

  10. People are strange, unfollowing just because you have contrary views to you, they should be engaging with you instead, after all this is called social media for a reason.

I know what you mean about commenters, a lot of people seem to think they have a valid opinion when they lack the ability to listen to arguments, critical thinking isn’t taught in school and the more reactionary people are the less sense comes from them. It’s hard to keep one’s temper sometimes.

Keep writing as you wish, it’s your blog and I’ll keep following as will many others.

    Reply

    • I do understand their feelings, they’re passionate, but I was just shocked they’d be nasty like that on someone’s blog. And the attack of this commenter was personal. He /She should have attacked my message, not the messenger. All she/he had to do was dispute the results of planting GMO rice in Asia. Instead of lean harvests that caused widespread famine, they produced bumper crops and even became rice exporting countries. The country that benefited most was Thailand.

Keep your political preference hidden, why on earth should you do so – your opinion may be just as good as every others – I always enjoy when you uncover your political feelings because I never doubt that you have the heart following the keys when writing – if this hurts someone so no doubt they would be hurt anyway… 🙂

Never trust a policeman just because they are policemen, it must be the learning – by the way about falling in love so it maybe right we can’t fall in love the same way twice – I would say why should we do it twice the same way – our best love haven’t a number – it could be the first, the 2nd, the 3th – we don’t know it before it happens, and make the one we thought was the best until we found out that the facade didn’t match the content – made this former greatest love a part of our so-called life experience… 🙂

It means every solar company in North Carolina will have a hard time staying alive. If the governments are truly in favor of solar power (it took my utility 6 months to agree that my solar power was legitimate, that meant six months creating solar power and getting no credit for it) then they would sponsor the lower costs directly with the manufacturer. I submit the fix is in on this one.

Our big concerns here are the seed-patenting and the Round-Up-Ready seeds. I am concerned about the increasing lack of bio-diversity in naturally occurring plants and the danger of lost species. Not all genetic modification is unethical or dangerous. As usual, people should not generalize, and would do well to do some independent study. I buy organic as much as possible, but not the kind of organic that prevents hybrids or anything drastic like that.
Thanks for reading me from time to time, I always appreciate that 🙂

    • Problem also is that enrollment is alphabetical. I think it’s unfair.

Monsanto’s business ethics is questionable. Farmers are forced to buy the seeds from Monsanto. And to be honest, I’m concerned about the Round-Up ready seeds. Basically, and so far, there’s no real evidence , YET, that genetically modified plants are a danger to human health. Proof are the rice seeds that have been modified more than 50 years ago. Rice farmers all over South East Asia produced bumper crops from these seeds. Also, the seeds were distributed free to rice farmers all iver Asia, and the seeds that were harvested coud be replanted . That’s not the case with Monsanto. Farmers cannot use Monsanto seeds for replanting.

That’s why I wish that commenter success .

  42. I don’t know why internet comment sections so often turn into such unconstructive counter-productive name calling. Good for you not sinking to his level. Great post.

  43. Ok, i think this is my first time here. A couple of comments. To fix that WordPress error, I would copy/paste your entire post, then just save again. If that doesn’t work, then delete it, open new post and copy your saved one back in. I have had that error before.

As for the pics you CAN put them on without paying for WordPress. I have been doing that for 4 years and 900 posts. Without being there I cannot tell you exactly what you are doing, but should be a tab or button telling you to insert a pic, then follow the directions. Again, not certain of your exact dealings.

    Good luck. Keep on posting!
    Scott
