The US, Syria, and my thoughts

Hello, Renxkyoko Iglesias here, musing, pondering, thinking, reflecting, ranting.

My last post was 3 weeks ago. I know I should post more often but I’ve been really, really busy. Tuesday this week, a relative from Seattle, Washington, came over . The last time he saw me was when I was 6 months old. In other words, that was the first time we met.  He’s gay , and he came here to California to get married to his long time partner  in San Francisco. ( They’ve been together 13 years )  His partner’s parents are coming over too to attend the civil ceremony.  Last year, Cee, our relative, and his partner’s parents went to France for vacation, so yeah, there’s really no family problem with their relationship.  Anyways , Cee  stayed with us for 2 days, his partner flew over from Seattle on Thursday,  we  picked him up at the airport,  had lunch somewhere, then they left for San Francisco. We wished he had told us beforehand, though. We could have attended their wedding.

Below is Cee , yours truly and my sister. ( I have to distort their faces , sorry )

Guys, I wrote before that I didn’t like the US to intervene  in Syria. I feel that we don’t belong there, we’ll never belong there, ever, but  I’m starting to change my mind. At this very moment, I’m listening to Sec. of State John Kerry.   I believe everything that he’s  saying in his speech..  Sec. Kerry is an anti-war Vietnam  hero. He’s not trigger-happy.  He’s not some lying  Neo-Con chicken warriors of former Pres. Bush. He’s not then Sec. of State Condoleeza Rice who scared  Americans with mushroom cloud cr*p  and  lied about  the presence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.  John Kerry ‘s speech is very compelling.   So, if he says Assad did it , I believe him.   I’ve been watching what’s been going on in Syria, watching rows and rows of dead bodies, mass – killed by chemical and biological weapons. That’s enough for me.

That said, I hope other nations will help too. It’s not enough that the Arab League just condemns it.  It’s unfortunate that England had chosen to say No. I don’t blame them, though. Without the image of these children dropping off  like dead insects,  I wouldn’t go there,  either. I will just close my eyes, change channel, and pretend nothing like that is happening in that part of the world. To me, they should solve their own problem. We have problems over  here in the US, too. And though we’re slowly coming out of deep recession and  our economy is improving ,  we’re not off the hook yet,  so seriously,  we need Syria like we need  a hole in our heads.

It’s unfortunate too that Pres. Obama had  declared this RED LINE  conundrum..  I know  I’m not political savvy, but when I heard Pres. Obama say that, I groaned and facepalmed.   I thought that was quite a dumb thing to say.  So , now that Assad had actually used chemical weapons on his own people, what is Pres. Obama to do now?  He had painted himself into a corner.  More than half of Americans do not want the US to get involved, the US Congress want  him to get an authorization first,  the UN will never approve this (  why? Russia and China have veto power ) England  is not on the same page as the US, and   though they condemn Assad’s actions, the Arab League do not want the US to get involved, either. That’s a good thing, though.  This could very well be Obama’s escape route, his saving grace, so to speak.

It is sad that  Syrians killing each other have become mere fodder for news headlines. No country wants to help.  Only France  and Turkey are willing to join the US.  As the English PM put it, ” the well had been poisoned “, and  no one will dare drink from it. The  US’s interventions in   Iraq and Afghanistan were started from lies, so that the US now has been likened to the boy who cried wolf.  Americans themselves are unwilling  and  wary and  not sure of the outcome.   Besides,  as Chris  Matthews of Hardball  said it, ” in some countries,  Liberation from tyrrany means never having to say Thank You.”

Also, we need to know,   who exactly is the US helping?  The Syrian rebels ? Which one ? Free Syrian Army?  There are so many.   The US helped the Libyan rebels, and yet,  Benghazi happened. Iraq is now lovey dovey with the country the US considers an enemy.  When the US leaves Afghanistan, there’s no doubt  the Taliban will make a comeback. It’s back to square one, maybe even worse than before.

One more thing, I hope Pres. Obama will intervene not because he doesn’t want to renege on his declaration on Red Line, but because it is the right thing to do….. What will happen if he reneges on this promise? Lose his credibility ? Pres. Obama should not worry about losing credibility. The US has lost that a long time ago, anyway.  As long as we know who we are, what we are , and what we are capable of, who cares what other countries think of us?  Google us, facebook us, youtube us, twitter us, they’re all US.  Hollywood will make stupid movies, and  people all over the world will still watch them.

Alright, here’s the thing. I’m sure Ms. Pollyanna ‘s  going to lose so many subscribers again with this post. And I’m as sure as the sun is up there, Obama’s gonna do it. God bless America.

That’s it for now, folks.  My Paris tour is up next.

And sorry for the rant coz war sucks.

My Euro Tour Part 25 Paris, France

Hi, Renxkyoko Iglesias here. * waves *

I wrote about the beach house my family is building on Boracay Island, Philippines. If you haven’t read it, it’s here. We’ve been calling our aunt in the Philippines to check on the progress of construction. As of last week, the foundation had been dug and they had already put the rebars , etc. The original plan was just a one -story duplex, one unit for rent, and one for the family. We’ve since altered the plan. Now it’s a two-story house with 6 bedrooms and 4 toilet/baths. I/m worried my parents and aunt have bitten off more than they could chew, but I trust they can do this. They have supervised construction of several properties, after all..However, though they are all rentals too, this is the first time they’re going into this kind of business… We classify it as Vacation House for Rent by Owner and we’re going to advertise it as such. Locals and foreigners can reserve the house at VRBO.com ( Vacation Rental By Owner ) by February, 2014. It’s 7,000 Philippines pesos a day ( USD150). That’s cheap, considering that the cheapest room at nearby Shangrila Hotel is USD300. Ours is the whole house that can accomodate at least 12 persons. During low season, we’ll rent out individual rooms for $30 /day. We’re still figuring out how this can be done. Oh, and the most important thing is to have it advertised in South Korea and Japan in their own language, especially South Korea.

Speaking of which…….

There was a joke that went around in the Philippines during the North Korea crisis. They say the South Koreans are not worried about North Korea because half of the population of S.Korea are already residing in the Philippines. Ha ha . J/k

Currently, dozens of US Embassies in the Middle East, and North Africa have been closed indefinitely, or on high alert. Americans are warned not to travel to these countries. Well, you can travel to the Philippines. Two days ago, Chris Matthews on Hardball announced a list of top 5 countries that view The US most favorably. # 5 is Kenya ( Pres. Obama’;s father was from there) and guess what is # 1. Tadaaaa ! The Philippines. 86% of the country view the US favorably. I expected England and Japan to be # 1 …. surprisingly, no. So, fellow Americans, we’re welcome there, very much so.

Okay, enough of self-promotion.On to my Paris tour, as promised.

The following are photos of Paris street scenes and fine architecture.

The Seine River ,  Notre Dame Cathedral is nearby. By the way, it’s pronounced No-truh Dahm ( the “o ” in No is like the  “o” in hot ) . TV hosts , especially sportcasters are perpetuating  this  Noter Deym pronunciation.  Well, there’s nothing we can do to correct  Los Angeles. But  it’s pronounced Los An-he-les.  Sorry for nitpicking. lol

DSCN1989.City dwellers should drive this smart car here in the US.  It doesn’t occupy too much space, and doesn’t consume too much gasoline. It’s green.  This was actually  the very first thing I noticed in Europe. The cars  were  small, especially in Italy and the Netherlands.

*ponders*

I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed that there are countries where the word “The ” is placed before the name of the country.  Ex:  the United States, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands,  and , oh, yeah, the Philippines. In fact, these are the only countries that I know of  that have ” THE ”  before the name.  We don’t say, in the Japan, in the Indonesia, in the England,  in the China , in the Italy, etc.  It does sound awkward, doesn;t it?

Good day to all. Be nice, be good, stay cool, and PEACE !

Now, this is what I call random !

Hi ! Renxkyoko Iglesias here.

Guys, I think I’m already scraping the bottom of the barrel. I’ve been thinking of closing shop after my France tour post. But I’m sure I’m going to miss this, and this is what ‘s actually preventing me from saying goodbye to the blogging world. A blogging friend has suggested some topics I can tackle, like movie reviews. I don’t think so. I don’t have that much depth myself to go deeper. I take things with a grain of salt. Cynicism and Skepticism are my first and last names, respectively. I can’t do psychology. I can only do zombie. I can’t recognize that so called ” inner child” , but oddly enough, I notice the most innocuous and insipid stuff in a movie. Such as what , you ask. Such as stuff like this…. the girl is depressed, drinks and vomits, and is so drunk she goes to bed in her street clothes, then her cheating lover kisses her awake in the morning and they make out. And I’m like, hello ? Morning breath ? Damn …. And then, I’d squirm in my seat, not because that cheating bastard is making a fool of her again, but because of the imagined nasty breath in the morning. You can say my imagination is misplaced. It’s supposed to be a romantic scene, right ? I just have to ruin the atmosphere. But that’s how I roll. So yes, that’s exactly the stuff you’ll get to read in my moview review.
* ponders *
This reminds me of something ….. I wrote or said something that kept my friends laughing for weeks after I told them about it. Well, there was this guy who liked me. Then, one day, he asked me ” Ren, would you like to go out with me ? ” And right away, I asked, ” Where to ? ” At first, his face went blank , then he literally rolled on the floor laughing, and kept on laughing the whole time he was with me. he he Well, what did I know ? If he wanted me to be his girlfriend, why not tell it to me straight ? Needless to say, he didn’t ask me again. Bahaha ! Found me stupid, you think ? Don’t answer that. 6_6’

For some reason, this also reminds me of something that I wrote on one forum . There was one interesting thread about pre-marital sex. ” Do you approve of pre-marital sex? ” I thought using the word ” approve” made it a stupid question. I kept my mouth zipped, though. I didn’t want to be a party pooper. Interestingly enough, almost all who posted their comments, about 200 of them, ” approved ” of pre-marital sex. Then I finally jumped in and responded to the commenter who wrote, ” It’s okay as long as they use protection. ” No Glove, No Love ” . I wrote something like ” Excuse me, don’t you think wearing a glove is too much protection? Don’t you want to touch the one you love with your bare hands? ” Suffice it to say, my comment was the last one on the thread. It was so much later that I found out what a glove was. He he he.

Well, my point is, I tend to put my foot in my mouth. ” Oh, Ren, it can only happen to you. ” And it can happen here on Worpress while I’m gleefully blogging. Come to think of it, I don’t even know what the point is in talking about all this.

Happy Pointless Day !

Be nice, be cool, and PEACE !

Hey, slap me if I don’t post about my Paris tour next time. I just feel lazy posting photos now.
