Hi there ! It’s me , Ren !
It’s been 16 days since my last post. =_=” I’m a lazy blogger, I know. It’s okay, you can slap me. No, wait, hold it ! I have excuses ! Well, to date, there are mere 2 weeks before school ends. I need a lot of catching up before final exams come middle of May. There’s no excuse I can give better than preparing for final exams, right ?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
It’s May 12 now. It’s been over a month since my last post. My final exams start next week , then summer vacation ! ! ! It is also 34 days before my Euro tour.
Well, I’ve been real busy these past few weeks, reviewing for final exams, and entertaining relatives from the Philippines who were here in the US on vacation. It was fun having them here. We went to Lake Tahoe for sightseeing and Napa Valley for wine tasting.
Lake Tahoe, Northern California. We had lunch at Harrah’s ( hotel/casino) and here’s a view from the restaurant. Beautiful snow – capped mountains. The snows on the way to Lake Tahoe haven’t melted yet. Our relatives were so thrilled to see their first snow ( in May ! lol) we pulled over and had their pics taken scooping snow off the ground. He he he . Charming.
.Above are the 3 kids, aged 13, 12 and 5. ( oops, that’s my sister and BF in the pic, too ) Their parents are both doctors ( OB-Gyne and husband is a Nuero – surgeon, and also teaches at a medical school in the Philippines. ) It’s weird that I never heard my little cousins speak the Filipino language the whole time they were with us. They spoke fluent English with a California accent, to boot. And to think this was their first time in the US. What is a California accent, anyways? There’s always a question mark at the end of a sentence , that’s what. lol ! Like so….. ” And then we went to this haunted house? And I was like, , it scared the heck out of me? And Tracy was like, he was so scared ? he fell on his butt? ” U_U
And their mom shopped til she dropped. The kids also got 2 Kindles and a GPS for the hubby. The 5 year old got a Car magazine. Seriously. He can read well, and knows so much about cars. 5 year old kid who can read! ! He was so thrilled to see my brother’s red NSX Acura he had his pic taken hugging the car. o.Oa He also informed us there ‘s no Acura in the Philippines. Anyone from the Philippines? Is that true?
They also went on European tour summer last year and gave us some tips. …. Be careful of thieves , especially in Italy, Spain and France. Whoa ! Really? Like, pickpockets? The pickpockets there are so brazen they’ll just grab your purse and run . And France….. my cousin said it was really beautiful ….. just don’t look down coz the streets are full of litter. And, my father and my cousins said, just eat pasta and pizza in Italy for the experience…. pastas and pizzas taste so much better in the US. And the bagette in France is as hard as rock, according to my cousins. Maybe they were supposed to dunk it into a hot choco or soup ? No, they said, they bought a bagget sandwich that almost cracked their teeth. @__@ And the Coliseum in Rome smelled of urine. Well, I’m going to find out soon and let you know if these are all true.
I feel bad I haven’t posted for over a month. I hope my readers haven’t forgotten me. Have you? Another thing…… I haven’t opened my email folder either . I’m scared to check my emails. I’m sure it will be in the thousnads by now. .. Okay, * checking now*….
* faints* , gets up*, * fans self*
1,379 unread emails ! !
I’m sure I’ll manage to go through all that after the exams, and resume stalking you guys.
Uhm….. I’m thinking……
Pres. Obama is courageous enough to declare he favors gay equality —> gay marriage. I’ve been saying here on my blog that I also approve of gay marriage.
The contrast between Obama and Romney is quite stunning, so much so there are no more gray areas left to ponder upon. It’s either you’re for or againts. Absolutely no in -betweens.
There’s a massive $ 2 B loss by Chase/JP Morgan that would have a great impact once again on US economy. This is why Wall Sreet reform is really so important. The risks taken by JP Morgan were not vetted and not regulated. These losses can impact the consumers , just like what happened when banks gave out house loans right and left, even to those who clearly couldn’t afford to pay the monthly mortgage thus leaving banks holding houses that are exceedingly overpriced and unsaleable .
Mitt Romney is banking on his business experience with Bain , a venture capital company… ( they now call it vulture capital company.) More often than not, it’s the public, the taxpayers, that are forced to clean up after these venture capitalists have cleaned out ailing companies. Bain Capital, formerly headed by Romney, buys out ailing companies, like GST Steel, borrows money from banks to supposedly bail out these companies, then they fire workers to save money, take out workers’ benefits, yadiya, take out the moneys borrowed from the banks , walk away with the money, then later declare bankruptcy. Yeah, that’s how Mitt Romney made his millions. His presidential bid is banking on that experience. Well, it isn’t surprising that he had once declared, ” Let Detroit go bankrupt. ” Didn’t he once say he ” likes firing people? ”
Wall Street has been bringing down the US economy to its knees. They hate reforms, then when they are in crisis, it’s the government that bails them out.
* sigh * Not campaigning here, mind you. I’m just musing. It’s sad that the Republicans have gone so far to the right happy nedium has totally disappeared. Nothing gets done anymore.
Well, here’s something funny for everybody…. It’s a recycled joke, but I still giggle everytime I read this.

I’m really jealous! I want to go back to Europe. Heck, I wish I could vacation somewhere this summer but it’s not going to happen this time. I just started a new job so the vacation will have to wait till next year. When I went for my own Euro trip, the gypsies and pickpockets seem to be bad mainly in France, Italy, and Spain. Our tour guides always, always, always reminded us to be careful of them. Luckily, when me and my mom went to those countries we didn’t encounter any of them. Definitely enjoy Europe, take lots of photos, and have fun! 😉
Posted by renxkyoko on May 16, 2012 at 3:03 pm
Whoa ! You’ve been to Europe too?
You’re right ! Our travel agent , and my cousins warned us about the pickpockets…. mostly Gypsies, they say. A friend of my parents was a victim in Spain. The pickpocket just grabbed her purse and ran. She lost even her passport.
Posted by simpleek on May 17, 2012 at 12:16 pm
Something similar happened to one of the people in our bus tour of Europe. I think it happened when we went to Italy. A gypsy tried to get into the pockets of this guy, but his daughter and their family friend managed to scare them off. It was crazy. I’d say just be alert if anything. If you see any gypsies stay away from them or don’t get too near.
Posted by renxkyoko on May 21, 2012 at 4:50 pm
Aaargh ! What’s with the Gypsies, anyway? Pickpocketing is their livelihood?
Posted by renxkyoko on May 21, 2012 at 4:53 pm
Also, when did you go to Europe? Summer, I presume? Give me some tips, like clothes to bring, etc. We’re only allowed 1 luggage, each, 50 lbs. I don’t really know how i can fill the luggage with stuff good for 30 days. Please give me tips, simpleek! !
Posted by simpleek on May 21, 2012 at 11:32 pm
Yup, I went in the summer. Are you just going to Italy or somewhere else? I think when I went to Italy, I think back in 2006 maybe, I went around July. It was pretty hot and humid there. Especially in Rome and Florence. Venice wasn’t too bad because you are by the water. I would say bring your summer clothes as usual and maybe some light sweaters or jackets in case it gets cold. If you plan to go to the churches there, they expect covered shoulders. So if you wear a sleeveless top or a strappy summer dress make sure you have a shawl or sweater to cover up while inside. Italy is strict about the bare shoulders and wearing a skirt or shorts that’s way higher than above the knee when you visit their churches. If you don’t cover up or look modest during the church visits then they won’t let you in.
Posted by renxkyoko on May 26, 2012 at 5:44 pm
we’re going to 9 countries. it’s a one-month pakaged tour. and we’re only allowed one luggage ! ! I hope we’ll have time to do a bit of laundry there.

That’s a lot of emails you’ll have to wade through. Ugh! I’m glad your family had a good time. Napa is beautiful, and the Tahoe area can be a lot of fun. I’m not a gambler, but I do enjoy the idea of skiing across the state line.
Although I’m for same-sex marriage (it’s not so much that I’m a die-hard supporter, it’s that I really don’t care–people should be happy, so whatever…), I don’t think the President’s belated support for it was anything more than a political maneuver. This is a 50 year old man who didn’t know how he felt about gay marriage until six months before what polls predict will be a close election. With surveys showing that something like 2/3rds of the country supports same-sex marriage, it’s rather remarkable that it took him this long. Nor is it a particularly risky move, as the headlines breathlessly declared after the President’s announcement. The people most likely to be angered by same-sex marriage were unlikely to vote for Obama anyway. While many of his 2008 supporters (a broad coalition) might have stayed home through disappointment or simply voter fatigue, will be energized by this announcement. I think Romney’s opposition to same-sex marriage will prove more harmful, although I’m not sure that either stance will prove decisive in the upcoming presidential contest (although November may surprise me on this last point).
Still, it’s hard not to appreciate your passion and enthusiasm!
Posted by renxkyoko on May 22, 2012 at 8:48 am
Stateline ! Right ! My cousins were so thrilled. We parked in Nevada and just a few steps away from the carpark was the Ca-Nevada state line. Now they can brag they’ve been to nevada, too. *o*
Not a die-hard supporter of same-sex marriage here, either. I mean, it’s okay. I put myself in their shoes, and if i really, really love the person, I’d like to marry too. Bill Maher said, if you’re not into same sex marriage, then marry a hetero, lol ! I don’t know if 2/3 of the country supports same – sex. is true. This was put into Proposition ballot here in California, a true blue state, and it lost. Catholics traditionally vote Democrat ( because of the Democrats’ ” socialist ” policies/ leaning towards the poor ….. like Jesus, by the way … Blessed are the poor… ) but these same sex marriage and pro-choice policies have become quite contentious issues between the Catholic church and the Dems, especially with traditional, conservative catholic bishops. Thank goodness for the Jesuits ! ! Our parish priest , a Jesuit, told us not to be a single- issue voter.
Same-sex marriage is a simple issue that everyone can understand. The Republicans are championing Paul Ryan’s economic plan. The democrats should continuously hammer into everyone’s minds what this plan would do to America.
Posted by Mooselicker on May 22, 2012 at 9:00 pm
Yes you are. Very lazy. But you’re back. For now.
You know such exciting people. I had no clue people in California talk in questions. You guys are supposed to be confident and beautiful. What gives?
Posted by renxkyoko on May 23, 2012 at 4:00 am
Know what, sometimes I get butterflies in my stomach…. like, damn, I really need to post now, but I postpone, postpone, postpone.
Yeah, we do talk in questions, especially the hard core californians, ha ha ha. Normally, accent is generic. I’m sure you’ve heard this, mooselicker.

Hello, Renx,
Many thanks for swinging by. Hey, I didn’t mean to cause pain to your chest or heart, whatever. In fact, I translated the poem (rather badly, haha) for you. It’s in the comment section of the post.
Hey, I know you’re busy, just three weeks away from your Europe tour. Excited you much? ^^ Cheers! 😉
Posted by renxkyoko on May 24, 2012 at 2:43 am
Awww ! Well, the poem is so heart-wrenching ! !
Thank you for translating, Ate ! To be honest, I didn’t understand all, but I got the gist, and the emotions.
OMG, yes. 3 more weeks. How time flies ! I want to buy an iPad for the tour, but I don’t know if I can still afford to buy one. I want to post while I’m still there. Bringing a laptop is so troublesome.
Posted by sa saliw ng awit on May 24, 2012 at 6:46 am
Ahaha, I’ll take that as a compliment. 🙂 No problem if you didn’t understand every Tagalog word, you got the message anyway. Yeah, it’s kinda malungkot…
Yes, your Euro trip is a good excuse to finally get that iPad. We’ll wait for your blow by blow account of museums, churches, pillars and birds in the park, haha. Hope you will have a good time in your travel. Cheers! 🙂
Posted by renxkyoko on May 29, 2012 at 8:34 am
And I’ll take pics of the food we eat, like a food travel. Excited na ako, and packed up already. I managed to pack 30 stuff of each in one luggage. We can’t do the laundry. No time. It’s regimented. Even our travel agent suggested an alarm clock.

Close to 1400 unread emails? I am incredibly jealous and glad that you managed to find time to read a couple of my blog posts. Also, I wanted to ask about your format. When people submit emails to you with questions, you just pick one once a week/month/year to respond back to?

Then I think that particular platform was bought by WordPress, and allowed us to move all our posts onto Wordpess. The move was in Oct. 2010… and that should be my anniversary here on WP.

You’re a very constant blogger. Compliments. And I do remember your mentioning mangas some time. 👍🏻
